2016, a book: Sarah Hesketh in Conversation

Tues, February 25th, 7.30pm

A remarkable book formed by a process of transcription, editing and collage. In 2016 Sarah Hesketh has written a book that is an attempt to find hope in the act of conversation. An attempt at a reckoning with a particular point in history, from her own particular view of the stage. It is not a comprehensive work of history. But through the voiced experiences of real people who lived through this tumultuous time, it explores twelve key public events that occurred in 2016.

Between Two Rivers – Moudhy Al-Rashid

Tues, March 4th, 7.30pm

Thousands of years ago, in a part of the world we now call ancient Mesopotamia, people began writing things down for the very first time. In Between Two Rivers, historian Dr Moudhy Al-Rashid reveals what these ancient people chose to record about their lives, allowing us to brush hands with them millennia later. We find a lullaby to soothe a baby, instructions for exorcising a ghost, countless receipts for beer, and the adorable, messy writing of preschoolers.
